It all started with a “woman’s hobby”, on my kitchen gas stove…. Behind the success story of Saïda & Omar, the founders, there are creative enthusiasts in all fields, and two qualified stubborn people who believe in their dreams.
The birth of Côté Bougie
When I left Casablanca – where I was decorating children’s rooms – for Marrakech, I was looking for a new activity that made sense and fulfilled my creative aspirations. I have always been crazy about candles. They have always been an integral part of my atmosphere at home.
At the time, there were few – or no – good quality candles in Morocco, and when I travelled, I always brought some back in my luggage. So I decided to start, first for myself, and then I quickly got into the game. I started with small pots in the kitchen. Then, very quickly, I took a small deposit to do my tests. At the time, nobody believed in it, I was regularly told I was crazy!
But it doesn’t matter, I don’t care, I’m passionate about it, I don’t listen to anyone and I make my own way. I joined my son, Omar, in Tours, where he was studying, and took a technical course. As soon as I got back to Morocco, I moved up a gear and hired two or three employees.
I settled in Sidi Ghanem, in a shop where my workshop is also located. I use high quality materials (natural cotton wicks, perfumes from Grasse), and my models are always one creative step ahead.
A family story
In 2005, my son joined me in the adventure.
An inseparable pair, complementary archis. Omar takes care of the management and commercial side of things, and I take care of the creative side, in which I thrive. And the new ideas are flowing! Handmade candles by our craftsmen, adapted to today’s trends. Everything is done to make Côté Bougie a luxury brand.
