Marrakech’s medina, the jewel of Morocco, is brimming with treasures, talented craftsmen and age-old traditions. Among these craftsmen is Sallah, a coppersmith with whom we’ve had the privilege of working for over 15 years. His trade has been handed down from generation to generation.
The art of brassware in Marrakech
In the heart of the narrow streets of Marrakech’s Medina lies a brassware workshop, an art that dates back centuries. Dinanderie is the art of working metal, usually copper, to create decorated objects such as trays, lanterns and, of course, our nickel silver candles. Sallah, with whom we have the pleasure of working, is a master of this ancestral art.
Sallah’s passion did not come about by chance. He is the worthy heir to a long line of coppersmiths. The secrets of this craft were passed on to him by his father, who had received them from his father. This passing on of know-how, from one generation to the next, is one of the reasons why Salla has become such a gifted craftsman.
Invaluable collaboration
When we met Sallah at his studio, we had the chance to observe his working process. Armed with a hammer, anvil and various copperworking tools, he hammers away with impressive skill. Every stroke of the hammer is precise, every pattern on the metal an expression of his expertise. Each piece is a work of art that embodies the soul of Marrakech.
Salla doesn’t just reproduce existing models. He creates one-of-a-kind pieces. When we mentioned the possibility of nickel silver candles for Christmas, he immediately grasped the idea and started working on prototypes. The result is simply magnificent:finely worked candles, cylindrical shapes and our famous hammered Tajine evoke the magic of Christmas.

Our collaboration with Sallah is a perfect marriage of craftsmanship and modern creativity. He showed us how to adapt to the needs and demands of our customers from all over the world, while preserving the authenticity and beauty of Moroccan traditions.
Marrakech’s Medina is much more than a tourist destination, it’s a place where ancient traditions are perpetuated by passionate craftsmen like Sallah.
We’re honored to collaborate with him and bring a piece of that magic to our customers.
